Use of visual elements in multimedia design by Yanhaiyang

Use of visual elements in multimedia

Introduction

Multimedia means to meet which use a combination of different content forms. This contrasts with media only use the computer to show such as plain text or traditional forms of printed or handwritten materials. Multimedia consist of text, images, animations, video, or interactivity content forms.

 What is the visual elements?

Visual elements is the symbolic that can be seen to express the nature things by human visual organ. Such as photography, television, film, plastic arts, buildings and all kinds of designs. All of these things can be seen by eyes, so all belongs to visual elements. It is a broad concept. The visual elements in multimedia design which including text, graphics, images, logos, colors and other modeling elements.

The rule of visual communicate in multimedia design

Multimedia is a way that to absorb people's attention by using visual elements, in order to achieve the goal that transfer information content to others. Because of making information transmission more accurate and more readable, the multimedia design must accommodate people's flow, as well as physiological characteristics. In order to determine the relationship between the different kinds of visual elements. So it is necessary to have a rule when design the multimedia. Each multimedia design must break normal rule of visual communicate, to guide information transfer by visual changing. It should also meet the needs of the visual aesthetic, to make each element stable and balanced in visual. For example:

l  Rhythm and cadence

They are the standard that consist of the visual beauty. So it is important to keep rhythm and cadence in visual area.

l  Harmony and contrast

Harmony is the content of the visual beauty which includes the unity of performance, the coordination of the line and plane and the harmony of the color.

l  Sparse and dense

In multimedia design, if the blank is handled too dense or have too much content, all of these are the misunderstanding of the visual design. Only find the balance between sparse and dense, then will be enjoyed in visual area.

The feature of visual communicate in multimedia design

l  The guiding of visual communicate

As we know, the formation of the visual process is depend on human natural physiology characteristics. Usually, due to the physical, when people learn visual language, always pursuing some regularity. For example, if people read some information, the visual will always have a natural flow habits, such as the sequence of browsing. Visual processes tend to reflect the obvious sense of direction, so that make the movement trends of the entire screen has a theme.

So, in multimedia design, the designers need to use visual process and do a better guiding of organize. Because it will directly affects the accuracy and effectiveness of the information which conveyed from communicators. It is good for guiding people to understand information.

For example:

It is a layout that show how to unlock the system. On the right hand of the icon, there are three arcs. It means move the icon to the right side and it will be unlocked. This is the use of guiding in visual communicate.

l  The interactivity of visual communicate

The purpose of visual communicate design is to convey information, but it can not escape the media. The relationship between media and visual communicate design is interactively, not only the media embodies the design, but also bring limitations to design. According to the extensive of the current information, all the past newspapers, radio and television in visual communicate has shown the limitations. So, in multimedia design, we need to catch the user's five senses to make multimedia design more suitable for humans.

In multimedia design, the interactively of visual communicate will help meet the growing public demand for more personalized information, such as to design the interface which expected by users, to meet the user's participation, or to achieve some kinds of needs, goals and abilities.

l  The characteristics of humanization

Due to the design of multimedia users and designers are all human, therefore, in multimedia design, visual communicate design not only needs to meet the people's the demand of both physical and psychological, but also to meet the material and spiritual needs. We know that because of the people need to face with the rapid development of technology and economy, so most of them have pressure from both psychologically and spiritually. When they face the screen, do not make some other pressure to them and to let them feel relax. Such as, in the visual communicate area, it is necessary to establish a pattern of human-computer interaction. High-quality interface will make people feel cheerfully.

Maybe the computer never achieve the true meaning of the interaction, but the innovative visual design will make the communication between human and media more fit and complete. So the characteristics of humanization is the combination of guiding and interactive.

Conclusion

With the development of the technology, the production which designed by human also already achieved to a new level. Then the multimedia design as a new discipline is still has a long way to go, but it has integrated a variety of design features and also has its own unique field. Even though, the visual communicate design performance is very brilliant in multimedia, but to designers it is necessary to absorb something new in this area. So try the best to achieve the perfect combination of visual language and advanced technology, and do a better services in the community.

  1. My comments are:
    1. The content is well-organized, but will be better if you can number them
    2. No citation used in your report? Only 1 reference used? Why? not enough time to do? Do you know how to add a citation to your report?
    3. No figure number, no caption in the report? Do you know how to add this? Show me
    4. Avoid using 'you..' 'we...' 'I...' , should use 3rd person writing in literature, do you know how?
    5. Lack of content in your conclusion, what do you learned from here? How can this new knowledge be applied in your assignment 2?
    6. So, in Assignment 2, I want to see a section to explain how these principles/rules can be applied in the design process, tell me in your presentation.
